Life should be lived adventurously, exuberantly, and in as shiny a place as possible.

Originally from Minnesota, I grew up tagging along and hanging out backstage at my mother's theater rehearsals surrounded by hair stylists, makeup artists, and costume crews. Hanging around backstage always felt like home. With everyone's encouragement, I enrolled in hair school and I found out along the way I had a talent for it. When I'm not in the salon I'm usually planning and recruiting models for art photography projects. I love the power that hair has to change how you look, how people perceive you and in turn how you experience life. It is truly the frame through which you engage with the world and your most prominent accessory.

Seeking out new challenges in my career has introduced me to the most wonderful and talented people along the way. With this salon, I want to celebrate beautiful work and great experiences. I hope to build a collaborative team with a focus on art and the craft of hairdressing.

One of the unexpected gifts of my career has been sharing milestones, achievements, knowing people over years, and being a part of so many lives. Walking out after a great haircut is one of my favorite feelings and makes me so happy to do that for the people that sit in my chair. At the beginning of my career, someone asked me what I was going to do "after this"... It's now been over 20 years, and in that time I've written two training programs. I've trained, taught, competed, and had my work published internationally. Most of the time it still feels as though I've somehow cheated at life because work isn't supposed to be this much fun.

COLORIST

Liz grew up in Los Angeles California and moved to the San Francisco Bay area where she graduated Cosmetology school in 1998.

She completed an apprenticeship and began her career at the famed Architects & Heroes Salon in San Francisco, and has since worked at a variety of top salons, notably Moxie Parlour, Kim Vo SF, and Harper Paige.

Liz has worked behind the chair for the last 24 years as a color specialist, and has extensive experience working with top color lines such as L’Oréal, Redken, Goldwell, Wella, and Arrojo American Wave, as well as expertise in foil highlighting, balayage/ hair painting bleach and tone blondes, creative color and grey blending techniques. Liz is a firm believer in continued growth, ongoing education and mentorship.

Liz is deeply inspired by soft sun-kissed hair from early childhood, California surf culture, Japanese anime, 90’s pop culture and make up artistry. When she’s not working you can find her spending time outdoors with her rescue French Bulldog Maggie.

Liz is accepting new clients of all genders and offers complimentary consultations.

I moved from SF to Minneapolis in 2002 to attend the Aveda institute for hair. After completing the year long program I moved back to San Francisco where I began my 20 year career as a hair colorist and stylist. This includes owning my own salon on Divisadero for 5 years which sadly closed in the early days of the pandemic. Moving to Marin for my love of mountain sports 7 years ago I soon started taking clients in Mill Valley. I am so grateful for all my supportive loyal clientele who have come with me over to Marin from all over the Bay Area.

I love creating natural looking blondes, lived in color and grey coverage where I use toxic free Kevin Murphy hair color. I can also help you grow out your grey which can be very challenging. I specialize in cutting medium to long soft layered styles and blunt bobs/lobs. I try my best to give you a style that needs minimal effort when styling yourself.

I will be offering the PURALUXE toxic free relaxer service starting early next spring ( price will vary).

When I am not at the beautiful 96 Throckmorton salon you’ll find me with my senior rescue pups Olive and River, running the beautiful Marin trails, finding new music and cooking a variety of Vegan food dishes.

At this time I am only booking new cut and color clients with prior consultation and approval. I no longer offer color correction or any shorter clipper style cuts.

Hallie Carter has been a stylist in San Francisco and Marin since 2011, and has been working in Mill Valley since 2016. She is best known for her short haircuts that effortlessly fall into place.

With an eye for detail and a commitment to ongoing education in the latest techniques, Hallie loves helping people update and maintain their style. Her favorite styles to do are pixie cuts, classic and modern barber cuts, shags, long layers, curtain bangs, and bobs.

She is inspired by nature, the internet, vintage fashion, modern fashion, and practicality/efficiency. In her free time she enjoys nature, museums, music, and swimming at the beach in a warm place.

Mill Valley has been my home for the past seventeen years and I love our style. It’s laid back and yet sophisticated. In my work, this translates to versatile lived-in hair with a touch of glamour.
